Event Date sort numeric, not date order

If I look at the Event Entry upcoming events screen, and sort on the Event Date field, it sorts it numerically not in date order (so 1/9/2024 comes before 3/8/2024 for instance).
world be good to have an underlying data item formatted yyyymmdd and sort on that rather than the visible date
