Officials event sign up

Ability to include in the calendar of events an extra field to allow officials or new volunteers to apply for an event. Presently new officials don't know where to start and rely on information from those in the know about signing up to an event. Some information may be available from clubs but its ad-hoc. Including an extra link to more information is a great tactical solution until a more strategic solution (e.g. 1 single portal for all events) could be implemented

Hi Mat, some testing of the calendar on the MSA website suggests clubs/event admins could add details for officials in the Description field of the form given the current solution doesn’t allow for extra fields on the form as you pointed out. Also confirmed a URL can be placed in the Description field to point volunteers to an official’s registration process whether that is a direct email to a club or a registration to the event e.g. betterimpact. See screen grab attached. This is a good tactical solution and now needs all club/event admins to provide this level of detail to allow volunteer officials a quick way of making contact. You see for a number of upcoming PIARC events this has been updated as a further piece of information.
In terms of future plans, if MSA is focusing on extending the MSA developed Event Entry form as per your URL, a rough prototype has been created on the Event Entry system but does require MSA to modify the form as it did request the applicant (me) to fill in a whole lot of car related information as the form is competitor centric. The great thing about using this form is all the data elements are there to manage officials for an event and have a history of attended events etc in the one spot. Give me a call and I'll walk you through the prototype which is live in the system. To develop this won't take much effort in my opinion.

Excellent idea, if we’re looking boost our volunteer numbers then we need continually feed their interest. This includes making it easier for people to find the information they need about specific events they’re interested in. As a regular volunteer with multiple years of experience I sometimes wonder too where I can find information about a point of contact for a specific event Nationally.

Great idea John! The current email and "word of mouth" method of knowing when events are coming up is ok but I find that I end up missing many events as I can't see the events listed in the one spot. A calendar view of all events would be very useful. Also, if it could link your MSA details/credentials, you then do not have to re-enter your details for each event. That would be ideal.

AGREE 100% with Johns comments it would be easier to have a one stop shop for events both state and and national events would make it easier to access events and make it easier to place in diary and get more officials to all events . its a great idea .thanks John for the idea and comments .

Oh I agree having a system thats easy to use especially for first time officials and those who arent technical proficient would make it more enticing. So many just give up and cant be bothered.
Its important to have a one stop shop.

John, agree 100% with your comments. As a relatively new volunteer I’m still learning where to go to volunteer for events. Just this weekend I finished my first state round event after learning that I needed to send an email to open vic state events on the my impact page. One would have thought all events the come under Motorsport Australian would be listed in this app

100% agree with Johns comment - I remember the struggle to find my first event (bit of a catch 22, clubs wanted members to work at events, but I didn't really want to join a club 'sight unseen' to get the info!)

@Mat would be really good to have all levels of events/clubs able to use a single system (F1, SuperCars, SpeedSeries, right down to club sprints etc) for officials so we're not having to jump through hoops, re-enter profile details, remember logins and where to go to check things (especially if that can also integrate with passbook history and team deployment planning)

John, Thank you for submitting this great idea, your idea is now under review.
The idea of a single portal for all events resonates with our development plans.
We have been thinking of an integrated way for Officials to sign-up for all events, not just the big events.

The more members that vote-up this idea, the higher the priority on the development roadmap.
